Australian Embassy fetes Navy veterans
Lingayen, Pangasinan (20 February) -- An Australian Commemorative Plaque in honor of the Australian Navy veterans who fought side by side with American and Filipino troops, was unveiled today at the Veterans Park in Lingayen town.
Mr. Les Kennedy, president of the Australian Naval Commemoration Committee of Victoria and Gov. Amado Espino,Jr. led the unveiling ceremony.
Other members of the Australian delegation are: Australian Navy Veterans Frank Barrile, Colin Garrett and wife, Ken Baldwin and wife, George Rappell, and Australian Embassy Assistant Defense Attache L t. Col. Gary Barnes.
The Australian Allied Forces made up of 15 Navy and supply ships, played an important part to liberate Luzon from the Japanese army during the historic Lingayen Landing on January 9, 1945. (VMHS/PIA Pangasinan/PIO) [top]
