DOLE gives assistance to Ifugao entrepreneurs

Lagawe, Ifugao (21 February) -- To combat the negative impact of the current global economic crisis, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) here together with the Ifugao Provincial government embarked on their own economic stimulus project assistance to young would-be entrepreneurs and self-employed workers in the informal economy of Ifugao.
The DOLE reported that in 2008, they released more than P660,000 financial assistance to various organizations to help them jumpstart or improve their capability of managing their businesses and earn more income.
The project also reached out to would-be entrepreneurs by providing them with the necessary technical and financial assistance to equip them with the knowledge and skills in business management that will enable to start, improve and expand their business concerns in order to be self-employed.
The 2008 financial assistance were given to the Rural Improvement Club of San Quintin, Alfonso Lista to procure food processing equipments amounting to P100,00, the Tukbuban Farmers Association for the establishment of a rubberized rice mill costing P360,00, P100,00 to the Unique Savings and Credit for coffee roasting facilities and P100,00 to 20 students of the Ifugao State College of Agriculture and Forestry (ISCAF) Lagawe Campus.
The P100,00 given to the 20 students of ISCAF at P5,000 each as a grant will be used as a capital for them to engage in any business they are capable of managing and sustaining to help them start earning income.
Just recently, the DOLE also released the amount of P1.4 million for its 2009 project assistance to self-employed workers in the informal economy sector of Ifugao. The program is primarily intended to assist the poor self-employed workers augment their income by making their existing livelihood grow into a viable and sustainable business.
With the DOLE's support, the program shall be implemented by the partner local government units and other government and non-government agencies which have direct link with them with regards to monitoring and other forms of assistance.
The Provincial Government will be the conduit of these projects as it was Ifugao Governor Teddy Baguilat Jr. who was very instrumental in sourcing the fund from the Office of DOLE Undersecretary Arturo Sodusta with the help of DOLE-CAR Regional Director Atty. Ana Dione.
The 2009 financial assistance was distributed to procure various machines and equipments for their businesses which are as follows: P120,000 to the Lagawe Food Processors Association, P263,000 to the Lagawe Seamstress Association, P109,000 to the Eastern Farmer's Organization, P120,000 for the Assosasyon ng Mga Panday, P83,00 to the Baguinge-RIC, P161,000 to the Banaue Federation of Women's Organization and P442,500 to the Tinoc Food Procesors for buying equipments for carrot juice production.
