by Lito Dar

Baguio City (21 February) -- Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA-CAR) is set to implement a free training program, called, "Pangulong Gloria Scholarships (PGS)", in support of the government's economic resiliency program.

Under this program, a daily training support fund of P60 a day, will also be given to the qualified beneficiaries, so as to avoid or minimize training beneficiary drop-outs.

TESDA-CAR Director Cenon Querubin, in a kapihan forum, Wednesday confirmed that there about 8,000 available slots for the PGS program, with 4,800 slots allocated for all the provincial Training centers of Cordillera for 2009 - plus the 1,800 scholarship slots from 2008 that will be carry over this year. This is in addition to the individual targets of the other TESDA accredited TEK-BOK training centers, like the Baguio City School of Arts and Trade (BCSAT).

The objectives of the PGS are to produce a pool of qualified and globally competent workforce who are "job ready"; to develop skills and competencies of the unemployed and the underemployed individuals through training programs of pre-employment skills upgrading and; productivity enhancement and to empower public and private Tek-Bok Providers (TBPs) in expanding their absorptive capacities and to enable them to offer programs for various qualifications including higher levels of technology where jobs are available in the labor market.

The scholarship is open to unemployed, underemployed or employed individual, from 15-55 years old - who want to have a job or an additional income, increase productivity or for a career shift.
