Gov. Padaca receives an international award

Ilagan, Isabela (23 February) -- Isabela Governor Ma. Gracia Cielo Magno Padaca was awarded by the Soroptomist International for making a difference for women and in recognition of her unique achievements on Philippine democracy and history.

Ms. Laling Ordones, Soroptomist International Makati-representative, conferred the "Making a Difference for Women Award" to Gov. Padaca to reckon her extraordinary achievements.

Ordones said great number of nominations reached their screening committee but only the Governor of Isabela was chosen for the award.

The SI considered Padaca's great contribution in Isabela's political history being the first lady governor and the circumstances by which she became a governor.

SI further hailed her great achievements on the protection of women and youth by establishing women's protection center and connecting with Philippine National Police and other institutions and agencies in upholding the protection of women.

The award aims to honor women who are making difference in advancing the status and improving the lives of women that had done considerable accomplishments and/or have directly cause the improvement of lives of women through an specific program.

Soroptomist International is the largest and the most pro-active women's organization comprising over 100,000 executive women in management and in profession doing voluntary community works and focused on improving and enhancing the status of women in local communities and throughout the world.

"We need more women with your caliber and courage to make this world a better place especially women who are often victims of injustice. The Philippines needs leaders with your passion and commitment to help rebuild our country, overhaul value system and animate our communities towards a productive and peaceful life," Ordones message to Padaca.

Ordones further said Padaca is a catalyst of change for Isabelinos and Filipino womanhood and the impact of her unique achievements on Philippine democracy is immense and indeed very significant in the country's prevailing socio-economic political situations. (PIA Cagayan) [top]
