MGB verifies report on resumption of dredging operation in Cagayan

Tuguegarao City (23 February) -- After a report on the alleged resumption of dredging operation in Lal-lo, Cagayan and despite the Cease and Desist Order (CDO), the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Task Force on Dredging was immediately dispatched to verify the report.

The team, led by Mr. Socrates Bosi, went to the site of the operation and discovered that there was no dredging activity and processing done since the issuance of the CDO.

Based on the report of the group, the team interviewed Mr. Florante Paat, representative of the San You Philippines Mining Trade and testified that there were no dredging activities executed since the CDO was issued to the operator.

The team observed that the equipment and vessels were docked since October and the Chinese operators and crew went home to China for the celebration of Chinese New Year

The team further inspected the stockpiled magnetite sand in the area and noted that there was no increase in volume as when it was inspected last year.

What caught the attention of the team was the 2 stockpile of manganese ore that were covered with canvass. Investigation revealed that it came from the small-scale mining area at Sitio Mammit, Dagupan, Lal-lo, Cagayan.

In addition, the team also inspected the dredging operation in Camalaniugan and Aparri and discovered that the operation stopped since the issuance of the CDO.

The team advised the representatives of the mining firms that the CDO is still in effect and the dredging equipment and the magnetic processing plant shall remain closed. (PIA Cagayan) [top]
