PGMA to visit Oro Thursday to grace 18th Vice Mayors League Convention, oversee jobs fair at SM

Cagayan de Oro City (25 February) -- President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is slated to grace the opening of the 18th National Convention of the Vice Mayors League of the Philippines (VMLP) scheduled February 26-28, 2009 at the Pryce Plaza Hotel, this city.
The President is expected to give the keynote speech on "The VMLP 20th Year: Continuing the Mission for Excerallent Legislation," theme of the convention, which will be participated in by some 600 Vice Mayors from all over the country.
While in the city, the President will also take time to observe the jobs bridging, skills retraining activity of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) at the SM Car Park located at Upper Carmen.
Aimed at showcasing the jobs training linked to jobs of recruiters for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW), the event will be attended by some 150 displaced OFWs from Regions 10, 11 and Caraga who have returned to the Philippines and about 2,000 jobseekers and graduates of Technical/Vocational Education Trainings (TVET).
Among others, the TVET courses offered by the organizers during the occasion will include welding, various types of heavy equipment and machine operation, slaughtering and construction, such as, carpentry, masonry, tile setting, scaffolding, electricity and plumbing.
Also offered are the following services: Career profiling, computer- based search for displaced OFWs, overseas job placement, job matching and the "Pangulong Gloria Scholarships" for training in TVET institutions, enterprise-based group training schemes, language proficiency, trainors development and free assessment and certification.
