Region I not included in fare rollback

By Miriam P. Aquino

San Fernando City, La Union (25 February) -- "Region I is not included in the implementation of the fare rollback which took effect recently in the Metropolis, Regions III, IV and in other regions", this is what the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) Regional Office I Chief, Transportation and Development Officer, Manuel L. Sabas, Jr. said.

According to Sabas, this is due to the fact that the price of diesel in the region is seen to be higher as compared to other regions and in the Metropolis most especially because some or mostly of the oil players particularly the small ones in these areas are selling diesel with a price of between P22 to P28 per liter.

Here in the locality, diesel is sold at P37.45 in some municipalities and even higher here in the City of San Fernando with P39.00 per liter.

Thus makes the existing fare on a steady state with P7.50 for the first 4 kilometers and P1.40 for every succeeding kilometer for regular passengers and P6.00 for the first 4 kilometers and P1.12 for every succeeding kilometer for students, disabled, as well as elderly in jeepneys.

Fare for buses also remain at P8.50 for the first 5 kilometers and P1.35 for the succeeding kilometer (regular passengers); P6.75 for the first 5 kilometers and P1.08 for every succeeding kilometer for students, disabled and elderly. (PIA La Union) [top]
