PGMA's presence in vice mayor's league meet, a show of support

by Rutchie Cabahug-Aguhob

Cagayan de Oro City (27 February) -- Tagoloan town Vice Mayor Sergio Yap II of Misamis Oriental province said President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's presence during the 18th Vice Mayor's League of the Philippines (VMLP) Convention at the Pryce Plaza Hotel Grand Ballroom in Cagayan de Oro City today, February 26, is a show of support to the organization.

Yap also said that the President's appearance will also translate to the recognition of the vice mayor's very important contribution to the well-being of the constituents.

"In previous decades, the vice mayors have always been ignored, even after the enactment of Republic Act No. 7160 or the Local Government Code which should have given them powers," Yap pointed out.

The appearance of the President in the convention will show that she really recognizes the role the vice mayors play in nation building for the good of the public, he added. (PIA 10) [top]
