PGMA grants over P3-M for SEA-K, KALAHI-CIDSS beneficiaries in Zamboanga Sibugay

Zamboanga City (27 February) -- True to her commitment on combating poverty and inciting development all across the nation, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, through the Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office IX turned over more than three million pesos (Php3,000,000) to KALAHI-CIDSS and SEA-K beneficiaries in Zamboanga Sibugay during the Opening Program of the 8th Araw ng Sibugay held Friday, February 20, 2009, here.

Health Secretary Francisco Duque, representing President Arroyo (who was scheduled to arrive later during the day), turned over the checks for the Self-Employment Assistance Kaunlaran (SEA-K) livelihood grant, and the Certificates of Fund Transfer for the Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (KALAHI-CIDSS) project. Secretary Duque was assisted by DSWD-IX Assistant Regional Director Zenaida L. Arevalo.

For the SEA-K livelihood grant, Sylvia Apduhan, president of the New Canaan SEA-K Association of Titay, Zamboanga Sibugay received a check for Php125,000. Lelanie Bonita, president of the Sunrise Small Vendors Association of R.T. Lim municipality also received Php125,000. Glenda Vergara, president of the Magsaysay Paglaum SEA-K Association of R.T. Lim received Php150,000.

Under the KALAHI-CIDSS project, Barangay Timbabauan received a certificate of fund transfer worth Php664,487.20 for the construction of a Water System; Barangay Libertad and Barangay Masao, Php469,462.40 each for the construction of a solar dryer with bodega; Barangay Sisay, Php557,040.00 for the construction of a water system; and Barangay Malungon, Php589,662.00 also for a water system.

Meanwhile, President Arroyo, who arrived shortly before lunch, emphasized in her speech the need for the government and the people to work together to crunch the global economic crisis. The President received warm applause from the Sibugaynons, who in turn, expressed their confidence in the Arroyo administration for bringing development in their area.

Also present during the program were Zamboanga Sibugay Governor George Hofer, Congresswoman Ann Hofer, Zamboanga City Congresswoman Maria Isabelle Climaco, local government officials, and other guests. (DSWD/PIA ZC) [top]
