6th ID Task Force Tugis ensure safe release of Cotabato City kidnap victims

Koronadal City (28 February) -- The 6th Infantry (Kampilan) Division under Major General Alfredo S. Cayton Jr. had successfully secure the safe release of the latest kidnap victims in Cotabato City, a Chinese businessman and his daughter.

The release of the kidnap victims was made possible through the intensive pressure from the operating troops of the 603rd Brigade and Task Force Tugis, newly installed 6th ID spokesperson Lt. Col Jonathan Ponce disclosed to the Philippine Information Agency here.

Ponce said the relentless effort of the 6th Infantry Division through 603rd Brigade and Task Group Tugis, in collaboration with the local government unit of Cotabato City under mayor Muslimin Sema caused the release of the Kidnap victims on February 22, 2009 at around 10:20 in the evening at Barangay Sapalan in Datu Odin Sinsuat town of Maguindanao province.

The victims Mr. Wilson Tan and his daughter Jennifer Tan were released after four (4) days in captivity.

With the recent Kidnapping incident in Cotabato City, the 6th Infantry Division in coordination with the City and Provincial Government of Cotabato appealed to the people to exercise extra alertness and vigilance so as to avoid occurrence of similar incidents, the 6th ID spokesman said.

Ponce also disclosed that "Major General Alfredo S. Cayton Jr. AFP has already directed all Field Commanders of the 6th ID to assist the Philippine National Police in the region in thwarting kidnapping in Central Mindanao and exhaust all means to deter this treacherous act." (ac agad PIA 12) [top]
