DPWH Ifugao jobs fair employs 205

Lagawe, Ifugao (28 February) -- In support to the national government's employment program, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) here launched the DPWH jobs fair here on February 24, 2009.
Dubbed as Programang Pangtrabaho ni Pangulong Gloria, District Engineer. Eugene Batalao, said that this activity which is done nationwide, is in collaboration with major contractors associations in the country.
Batalao said that the DPWH conducted this noble activity in its unwavering support to the desire of the government to forge its way out of the world economic crisis by providing gainful employment to a considerable number of people via its investment in infrastructure programs.
Out of the 147 applicants, 141 were hired by the DPWH while the six participating contractors in the province employed on the spot 64 qualified applicants.
Batalao disclosed that aside from providing gainful employment to workers, the jobs fair will provide fiscal stimulus to spur economic growth in the locality like increased spending power, probable opportunity to save and also to reduce percentage of unemployment nationwide.
Acting as a matching conduit to said program, the DPWH will seek to match the worker's capability and preference with available infra project as well as contractor's current needs.
On the other hand, the Department of Labor and Employment shall provide guidance in the matter of assuring that workers' and employers' rights are upheld and shall assist the DPWH in ensuring that a wider media coverage is attained in order that the nationwide job fair shall be known to as many prospective applicants as possible.
