DENR Isabela celebrates National Flag Day
Ilagan, Isabela (1 June) -- The Department of Environment and Natural Resources- Isabela Provincial Office has led the observance recently the National Flag Day aimed at promoting public awareness of good citizenship, values such as love of country, respect for the flag and the elderly, patriotism and nationalism.
In a report from Provincial Environment and Natural Resources (PENRO) Isabela, its Community Environment and Natural Resources Offices (CENROs) have been directed to display the Philippine flag in strategic places within their areas of jurisdictions and conduct related activities promoting the importance of the very historic Philippine Flag.
In Naguilian town, OIC CENR Officer Samuel Berlin displayed tarpaulin flags in three strategic places within his area of jurisdiction. One of the tarpaulin flags was displayed along the national highway at Naguilian junction and the other was displayed at the Binallay Park in Ilagan.
In San Isidro, Isabela OIC CENRO Mindo Aquino displayed giant tarpaulin flags in prominent places in this southern Isabela town particularly at the Isabela State University (main campus) in Echague and distributed Flags (posters) to motorists plying the northern and southern part of the province.
In Roxas, Isabela CENRO Jaime Frogoso had shown support to the DENR Secretary as manifested by the activities undertaken in relation to the celebration. Frogoso led in the installation of the tarpaulin flags in public places including the CENRO office.
Palanan CENR Office head Williams Savella immediately moved to comply with the instruction of the PENR Officer Alfredo Almueda to display the Philippine National Flag and conduct related activities to commemorate this event.
CENRO Cabagan chose Isabela State University in Catabayungan, Cabagan as the most appropriate place for them to display the tarpaulin flag provided by the DENR Regional Office. CENR Officer Melchor Abiqui pointed in his report that flag ceremony was conducted, then a motorcade and IEC on the legal basis of the Philippine Flag Day.
CENRO Cauayan through the leadership of Forester Edilberto Crabajal displayed the tarpaulin flag at the Cauayan Airport clearly seen by airline passengers.
Other activities conducted by PENRO and CENRO in Isabela is the simultaneous singing of the national anthem and Pilipinas kong Mahal, reciting the Panunumpa sa Watawat during the Flag Raising ceremony.
A motorcade, distribution of Flag emblem, flag, flaglets, and stickers were also conducted by PENRO in educational institutions, commercial establishments and local government units.
The environment department led by DENR Secretary Jose L. Atienza was tasked by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to lead in the National Flag Day celebration.
The flag day is observed nationwide every 28th day of May with DENR as lead agency to commemorate the Battle of Alapan in Imus, Cavite in consonance with Republic Act 8491 otherwise known as Flag and Philippine Heraldic Code.
The National Flag day is now on its second year of implementation enjoining all national government agencies and local government units and all Filipino citizens to love the Flag that symbolizes our national sovereignty. (PIA Isabela) [top]
