by Jocelyn P. Alvarez
Zamboanga City (1 June) -- President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in a one-on-one interview with Joel Sanson of RMN Zamboanga called on both the local and national media to tone down their reportage and not to sensationalize issues that will aggravate the liquid peace and order condition in Mindanao, specifically in Zamboanga City.
This call was made in response to the question made by Mr. Joel Sanson, RMN Zamboanga during her brief visit here Friday Morning for the inauguration and unveiling of marker of the P700M port expansion project of the Philippine Ports Authority.
Mr. Sanson in an interview asked the President on how can government media like the OPS, PNA, PIA, Radyo ng Bayan and state owned and managed television stations can be effective in neutralizing the persistent negative publicity about Mindanao particularly Zamboanga.
"Bigger viewership is in the private stations. Mas malaki and viewers ninyo kesa sa government media. Yung responsibilidad ay nasa sa inyong mga private media not to sensationalize the issue" "They (terrorists) should not be given airtime" Mrs. Arroyo emphasized.
This call was made in observation to some privately-owned television and radio stations allowing or giving airtime to terrorists which only boost their moral. (JPA- PIA ZC) [top]
