99 A(H1N1) deaths confirmed worldwide

San Fernando City, La Union (1 June) -- The World Health Organization (WHO) reported a total of 99 confirmed deaths of the dreaded Influenza A(H1N1) worldwide as of May 29, 2009.

Mexico leads the death toll with 85 confirmed deaths out of the 4,910 confirmed cases followed by the United States of America (USA) with 11 deaths out of the 7,927 confirmed cases.

Two (2) deaths was reported from Canada out of the total 1,118 confirmed cases and Costa Rica has one (1) death from a total of 33 confirmed cases.

Worldwide, there were 15,510 confirmed cases of Influeza A(H1N1) from 53 countries reported by the WHO inclusive of the reported cases from Mexico, USA, Canada and Costa Rica.

Distribution by country of the remaining 1,522 confirmed cases include Argentina (37), Australia (147), Austria (1), Bahrain (1), Belgium (8), Brazil (10), Chile (165), China (30), Chinese Taipei (9), Colombia (17), Cuba (4), Czech Republic (1), Denmark (1), Dominican Republic (2), Ecuador (32), El Salvador (11), Finland (3), France (21), Germany (19, Greece (3), Guatemala (5), Honduras (1), Iceland (1), India (1), Ireland (3), Israel (11), Italy (26), Japan (364), korea (33), Kuwait (18), Malaysia (2), Netherlands (3), New Zealand (9), Norway (4), Panama (107), Peru (31), Philippines (6), Poland (4), Portugal (1), Romania (3), Russia (2), Singapore (4), Slovakia (1), Spain (143), Sweden (4), Switzerland (4), Thailand (2), Turkey (2), United Kingdom (203), and Uruguay (2)

Among the 53 countries cited, Czech Republic, Dominican Republic, Slovakia and Uruguay were among the new counties that were reported with the disease.

According to Medical Specialist III Genesis May J. Samonte, MD, PHSAE, of the National Epidemiology Center of WHO, daily number of new confirmed influenza A(H1N1) cases worldwide increases from May 1 to May 29, where a tremendous increase was recorded on May 29. (PIA-RO/La Union) [top]
