PGMA launches DTI's enhanced price and supply monitoring project

Manila (2 June) -- President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo launched the Enhanced Price and Supply Monitoring Project under the Department of Trade and Industry-Comprehensive Livelihood and Emergency Employment Program (DTI-CLEEP) last 24 April 2009 at the Yazaki-Torres Manufacturing Inc. Gymnasium in Calamba City.

The event highlighted the hiring of 500 displaced workers from Laguna as price monitors for three months. The price monitors would assist in monitoring business establishments to ensure their compliance with trade and industry laws such as the Price Tag, Labeling, and Product Standards laws.

DTI Undersecretary for Regional Operations and Development Group (RODG) Merly M. Cruz presented to the President DTI's ongoing emergency employment program in the Calamba, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon (CaLaBaRZon) area such as the Laguna Livelihood Emergency Employment Accelerated Program (LEAP) and the Bayong Development Program (BDP).

To date, 921 jobs have been created under LEAP, a project being shepherded by Secretary Peter B. Favila, which focuses on employing out of school youth (OSY) to gather water lilies from the Laguna de Bay and 44 under the Bayong Development Project (BDP).

Also featured during the event was the ceremonial turnover of a check amounting to P855,000 provided by the Small Business Corp. (SB Corp.) for entrepreneurship loans to displaced workers of Light Industry & Science Park (LISP) I and II. (DTI) [top]
