Inter-Agency Convergence Group to passengers: Cover mouth, nose when coughing, sneezing

By Alice Nicart

Borongan City (2 June) -- Passengers who let go of their dirt in public through coughing and sneezing with uncovered mouths and nose may have a few days to misbehave and neglect social responsibility.

This, when Borongan's Sangguniang Panglunsod pass and approve a resolution to that effect.

On May 27, 2009, Department of Education' Inter-Convergence Group met for the OPLAN Balik-Eskwela which discussed among others subjects about "Healthy Places and Practices".

In the presentation of Department of Health representative, Mrs. Concesa Balanga, it was cited that with the onset of AH1N1 virus, children must be taught of proper hand washing and the general public must be extra careful with their daily habits and practices relative to health. She added that DOH's Dept. Circular No. 195. S. 1993 urges the public to maintain/promote "Healthy Places".

Balanga's notion prompted the Inter-Agency Forum to pass a resolution to the Sangguniang Panlunsod of Borongan to urge transport operatives (shuttle vans, buses, jeeps, multi-cabs, tricycles) to urge their drivers/passengers in the strict compliance of DOH Circular, vis-ā-vis, covering mouths and nose when coughing and sneezing while inside the vehicle together with the "NO SMOKING" policy.

Dr. Nina Villalon, Eastern Samar School's Division Superintendent then committed, with her supervisors and principals to sign the said resolution.

She was also thankful that the forum came up with such a motion which to her is also another milestone of inter-agency initiatives. (PIA-Eastern Samar) [top]
