No tuition fee hike in R12

Koronadal City (2 June) -- The office of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) 12 under director Carmen Dormitorio revealed that private higher education institutions here have not raised tuition and other school fees.

This according to CHED 12, is the result of the order of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo to higher educational institutions all over the country not to impose any increase on tuition and other school fees for school year 2009-2010 to help ease the burden of parents and encourage students to continue their studies amidst the global economic slowdown.

CHED Secretary Emmanuel Angeles had also asked schools, both private and public to issue a moratorium on tuition and other school fee increases in the light of the global economic downturn.

CHED 12 has reported that as of the moment, no academic institution has so far transmitted a notice of intention to increase tuition fees.

The report also said that should institutions here in the region request for increase in tuition fees, they should comply having a public consultation before their application be granted. (aca PIA 12) [top]
