Anahawan, Southern Leyte (June 4) -- Residents in this municipality in the pacific area of the province will have a taste of nocturnal lighting just like the ones used in Cebu to perk up their night life in time for the annual fiesta celebration on June 13, and onwards.
And town Mayor Roberto Loquinte will see to it that the evening fixtures will be fully operational before the town's fiesta, so balikbayans will appreciate the place they can proudly call home, and visitors, tourists can enjoy their stay.
In a chance encounter with PIA during the PDC meeting this week, Mayor Loquinte said there were 70 posts installed in city-style shape and lights around the town proper, from barangay Loon, Tagup-on, Poblacion, and San Vicente.
Each lamp post costs P 15,000, or a total of P 105,000.00 for the lighting project, the funds coming from the town's coffers, said Mayor Loquinte.
Meanwhile, a day before their fiesta celebration, on June 12 which happens to be the nationwide celebration of Philippine Independence Day, the local government unit would give recognition to former Mayors, in addition to the usual program of activity for the day.
Loquinte said all the Mayors who had served the town will be duly recognized for their efforts and contribution for Anahawan, since the 1930's during the time of Mayor Umacob up to the incumbent Mayor's predecessor, Mayor Minana.
As to the fiesta-related activities, Mayor Loquinte said among the major highlights are street dancing to be participated by various groups in their local setting, and an inter-barangay basketball tournament. (PIA-Southern Leyte) [top]
