Camiguin gov is guest of honor at opening of International Food Exhibition

by Zita Maestrado-Abellare

Camiguin Province (4 June) -- Regional Development Council (RDC) of Northern Mindanao Chairman and Camiguin Governor Jurdin Jesus "JJ" M. Romualdo was the guest of honor at the Opening Ceremonies of the International Food Exhibition (IFEX) in the SMX Convention Center, SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City, last May 15, 2009.

The Governor, together with Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Sr. Undersecretary Thomas Aquino, the Growth of Equity in Mindanao (GEM) Chief of Party Mr. Charles Feibel, DTI-10 Regional Director Alicia Euseña, then led the ribbon cutting ceremony which signaled the formal launching of the Region 10 IFEX Partner Region Program (PRP) Pavilion and special setting.

The ceremony was also witnessed by some foreign dignitaries, Camiguin Congressman Pedro P. Romualdo, Mambajao Mayor Ma. Luisa D. Romualdo, DTI-10 and CITEM officials and staff, with the domestic and foreign buyers.

In his welcome speech, the Governor lauded this event as a rare occasion and as a cost effective means of meeting existing clients and opening markets to prospective buyers and a good venue to reinforce our trading relationships, and create more networks with other business contacts.

Following the opening rites and viewing of the food exhibits, Gov. Romualdo then proceeded to deliver his message as RDC Chairman at the IFEX Northern Mindanao (NM) Investment and Marketing Forum attended by prominent investors, domestic and foreign buyers and sponsored by the regional offices of the Department of Agriculture (DA) and DTI.

Gov. Romualdo, in his speech, mentioned the formidable challenge to transform Region 10 and make it as a preferred investment area in Mindanao.

The forum is a good venue to exchange ideas, share insights and experiences as well as discuss common avenues to make Northern Mindanao a prime economic and tourist destination.

The thought of promoting and highlighting Northern Mindanao's competitive advantage will let the rest of other regions and the global market know its potentials and the various golden opportunities to be explored and partook to make their business thrive especially in the fields of agribusiness.

"Each province has its unique attractions and one must visit and explore them to really appreciate nature and God's abundant blessings in our region," said Gov. Romualdo.

The Governor also emphasized that Region 10 has not recorded any single strike or major labor dispute and this only shows how we work hard and how we make our business competitive and productive so we can reap the rewards.

He proudly ended his speech saying that Northern Mindanao is the right place for investments and this is the right time for all to explore, stay and invest in Region 10.

IFEX Philippines was held on May 15-17, 2009 and is one of the premier sourcing hubs for quality, diverse and delectable Philippines and Asian food-the venue choice for hundreds of local and foreign buyers of key establishments as well as of chefs, gourmets, entrepreneurs and foodies.

Northern Mindanao is this year's destination of the IFEX Partner Region Program (PRP), a project of the Center for International Expositions and Missions (CITEM), an agency of DTI that is geared towards helping the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) of the regions to innovate, promote and package quality food products from the Philippines and also a venue for the different regions to share exciting gourmet options that appeals to the senses.
