10,000 jobs up for grabs on June 12 jobs fairs

Davao City (5 June) -- The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in Southern Mindanao is opening up to 10,000 placements during its Independence Day jobs fair and is expecting to hire on the spot some 3,000 workers.

Guesting at the Ugnayang Bayan held at the NCC Mall Davao, DOLE Regional Director Jalilo dela Torre said that 8,000 overseas employment opportunities and 2,000 local job openings will be up for grabs during the three-day jobs fair that would run from June 12 up to June 14.

He bared participation of 10 overseas employment agencies and 10 local companies during the fair that would also be joined by government agencies which would also be hiring workers through the Comprehensive Livelihood and Emergency Employment Program (CLEEP).

Job-seekers can take their chances of getting employed during the jobs fair that would be held at the NCCC Mall Davao, MacArthur Highway, Matina, Davao City. Other regions are also organizing jobs fair on Independence Day.

Applicants who registered during the Ugnayang Bayan held on June 03 will be able to take the fast lane during the Independence Day jobs fair which Malacanang has viewed as "a huge part of the Independence Day celebration."

Bearing the theme, "Kagitingan, Kagalingan at Kasipagan: Tungo sa Tunay na Kalayaan", the jobs fair at the national level is expected to hire on the spot some 15,000 workers.

Dela Torre is expecting Region XI to maintain its ranking of based on the number of those hired-on-the-spot during their Labor Day (May 1) jobs fair of which some 1,500 workers were immediately employed.

"We ranked second to the National Capital Region in terms of hired-on-the-spot," he said.

Meanwhile, Dela Torre made it clear that the usual flag raising rites and wreath laying would remain as the usual main highlight of the Independence Day celebration. (PIA XI) [top]
