PIA Press Release

Expect our irrigation support, NVizcaya NIA exec tells farmers

Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya (5 June) -- An official of the National Irrigation Administration(NIA) here said farmers can always count on the support of the agency in terms of repair and development of irrigation systems in their communities.

"We are always beside them, along with the support of our provincial officials so that the agricultural sector continue to improve and flourish in the province," said Engr. Francisco Domingsil, NIA officer-in-charge here.

He also admired the resiliency of farmers in the province despite the onslaught of typhoons that usually damage their ricefields.

According to Domingsil, more than P75 million has been allotted for the restoration of irrigation systems in the province. The figure consists of the P10 million assistance fund each from Congressman Carlos Padilla and Governor Luisa Cuaresma and the agency fund of the NIA from 2008 and 2009.

"This will be distributed to the 55 communal irrigation systems in the province needing restoration works," he said.

Domingsil also urged other farmers in the province to join the Nueva Vizcaya Provincial Federation of Irrigators' Association(NVPFIA) so that they can easily avail of assistance through the Maintenance of Irrigation Systems Fund(MISF) supported by the provincial officials and NIA.

At present, he said more than a half of the total farmers in the province have not yet joined the NVPFIA which is being assisted by the NIA's institutional services division.

"We are also appealing for the farmers' patience in waiting for our equipment support because there are also technical delays along the way. In the meantime, they have to initiate temporary solutions and coordinate with their local government units for assistance," he stressed. (PIA NVizcaya) [top]
