Cagayan Valley tops employment rate nationwide
Tuguegarao City (5 June) -- The Cagayan Valley Region ranked first in employment rate as compared to other regions in the recent labor force survey nationwide conducted by the National Statistics Office (NSO).
In the survey, Cagayan Valley obtained 97.1 percent of total labor force followed by Region 9 with 96.94 percent and the Autonomous Region for Muslim Mindanao with 96.90 percent while National Capital Region showed the lowest percentage of 87.2 among all regions.
The survey result showed that more than half of the people in the region were employed in the agriculture sector with 59.5 percent, 33.3 percent in the service sector and 7.2 percent in the industry sector.
However, the survey also showed that in Cagayan Valley, underemployment is increasing as compared to previous years but the regions that have the highest rates are the Western Visayas and Bicol Regions while NCR registered also with the lowest rate. Visible underemployments are persons who worked less than 40 hours in a week and wanted additional hours of work.
The number of working age population also increased and it continuously grew from quarter to quarter in the survey period however, the number of full time workers has declined while part-time workers continue to increase.
The labor force survey in a nationwide survey of households conducted regularly to gather data on the demographic and socio-economic characteristics of the population that aims to provide quantitative framework for the preparation of plans and formulation of policies affecting the labor market.
