Zamboanga City (5 June) -- The recent signing of a memorandum of agreement by the member agencies of the National Economic Research and Business Assistance Center (NERBAC) is seen as a major step towards the goal of further streamlining and simplifying the business registration process in Zamboanga City and the whole of Region 9.
The undertaking was signed and entered into by Mayor Celso Lobregat representing Zamboanga City LGU together with the regional heads of the Department of Trade and Industry, Cooperative Development Authority, Bureau of Internal Revenue, Social Security System, Philippine Health Insurance Corporation and Pag-IBIG Fund.
The undertaking stipulates the roles and responsibilities of each of the above-named entities in support to the operation of the center.
These include the regular assignment of personnel at the center to facilitate requests from clients and to respond to their queries; the provision of necessary forms, documents and promotion materials necessary in the conduct of registration and licensing processes; and for investment promotion.
NERBAC is established in all regions nationwide by virtue of Republic Act 7470 to enhance economic growth and improve Philippine competitiveness. It is envisioned as a single window for express licensing and registration, knowledge management, and investment promotion and facilitation.
Presently, all business name registrations by the DTI in Zamboanga City are being processed at the NERBAC Office located at the 3rd Floor, VH Wee Building along Veterans Avenue, Zamboanga City. Personnel from the other member agencies also report by schedule to do initial processing of permits and licenses at the center.
Nazrullah Manzur, DTI-9 regional director and NERBAC center manager said that efforts are also being undertaken at present to setup the necessary infrastructure that would make it possible for the interconnection of the NERBAC computers to the member agencies' main servers or databases.
Director Manzur expressed his appreciation for the full support and cooperation his office is getting from Mayor Lobregat and the other member agencies to establish a fully operational NERBAC in Region 9. (DTI9/PIA9-BST) [top]
