Sogod town celebrates 156th founding anniversary

Sogod, Southern Leyte (June 5) -- One among the oldest towns in the province, Sogod will observe its annual town anniversary thru the able leadership of incumbent local chief executive Mayor Sheffered Lino S. Tan as the honorary chairman of all the working committees.
Sogod became a municipality on June 10, 1853 by virtue of a decree signed by Governor General Antonio de Urbiztondo.
The major activities lined up were religious, socio/ civic sports and an entertainment show.
According to Municipal Administrator Officer Martin Lagmay, the inter-town basketball will add color to the said affair as eleven municipalities and one city signified their participation, as follows: Hilongos, Bato, San Juan, Bontoc, Limasawa, Malitbog, Lilo-an, Sogod Libagon and Maasin City.
While an inter-agency and inter barangay basketball shall also be participated in by national and local employees of Sogod.
Among other sports activities hotly contested were the tennis invitational, speed ball airsoft competition, volleyball and Larong Pinoy, it was learned.
The second Mayor's cup speed ball airsoft competition also highlighted the annual anniversary for one whole day.
On June 10, a Thanksgiving Mass shall be held in Sogod Coliseum at 7:00 o'clock in the morning. This will be followed with a civic–military parade at 8:45 in the morning from the municipal ground, he said.
After the parade, the volleyball championship games will follow shortly and the Larong Pinoy shall be conducted and chaired by Hon. Aileen Basilad.
To fill its nocturnal events of the celebration, the evening shall be filled with songs and laughter together with the entertainment show of stand up comedian Black Jack, Martin added. (PIA Southern Leyte) [top]
