Tagalog News: DA 12 distributes tractors to corn farmers in Region 12
Koronadal City (5 June) -- Seven (7) farm tractors with standard implements will be distributed to farmers' groups here in the region by the Department of Agriculture under Officer-in-Charge Atty. Tommy Ala.
The farm implements will be given to farmers on a cost sharing scheme, a report from the DA 12 disclosed.
Part of the agreement for the tractor distribution said that recipients should prioritize mechanization services to farmer cooperative belonging to identified corn cluster areas of recipient municipality or city.
These implements, accordingly is under the Ginintuang Masaganang Ani Corn Program which is expected to help increase corn productivity, increase competitiveness of domestic corn production as well as increase farmers' income.
DA 12 OIC Tommy Ala said that the DA will allocate the required counterpart of PhP1.2 million while the recipients shall pay the remaining amount for the cost of the tractor.
This year's recipients are the City Government of General Santos; the KIMALAKA Multi-Purpose Cooperative of Kinalaban, Malungon, Sarangani; the T'boli Multi-Purpose Cooperative of Edwards, T'boli, South Cotabato; the Moro Returnees Farmers MPC of Sitio Tukay, Baloen, Columbio, Sultan Kudarat; the Highlanders Agr-Resources MPC-Sucob, Columbio, Sultan Kudarat and one for the DA-Central Mindanao Integrated Agricultural Research Center (DA-CEMIARC) in Amas, Kidapawan City.
Last year, four (4) cooperatives in the region had received farm tractors from the DA 12. These are the Small Corn Growers MPC of Kidapawan City; the University of Southern Mindanao (USM) in Kabacan, Cotabato, the MAGPRUB ASPA Growers Cooperative (MAGCO) of Polomolok, South Cotabato and the Salasang Multi-Purpose Cooperative of Salasang, Arakan, Cotabato.
