LGU, 602nd IB conducts 1st Youth Leadership Summit
Koronadal City (5 June) -- The provincial government of Cotabato together with the 602nd Infantry (Liberator) Brigade of the Philippine Army is continuously reaching out to the people of province most especially the youth sector not only those in the cities but also those in far-flung areas, a report from the Brigade Headquarters disclosed.
"Since the youth sector is one of the most vulnerable and primary targets for recruitment not only by the communist terrorist but also the rouge MILF as well, the Armed Forces of the Philippines is exerting efforts to counter these activities through intensive and sustained civil military operations, the report further said.
The most recent activity is the conduct of the Youth Leadership Summit held last month at the 602nd headquarters in Camp Lucero in Carmen, Cotabato.
The purpose of this training is to strengthen the youth organization in the province as well as to bolster the relationship of the military and the local government in combating lawlessness and peace and order problems.
The liberator's brigade S7 under Cpt Reggie Q. Bernardino, also revealed that these trainings are conducted to help the LGUs create God-fearing youth leaders, increase awareness on the role of the youth in nation building and to keep them aware on deceiving issues and activities of lawless groups operating in the far-flaung communities of the province.
The program, a series of lectures and interactive discussion is focusing on educating the youth on how they can help address the problem on communist terrorism and insurgency, leadership and their role in nation building and issues concerning environment protection, drug abuse, human rights and spiritual values.
The activity was actively participated by the members of the Sangguniang Kabataan, out-of-school youths, high school and college students coming from the different municipalities of Cotabato province.
The desired output was meaningfully achieved with the attendees' active participation and cooperation throughout the duration of the activity.
The report also stressed that the AFP's role aside from being combatant is also to assist in rehabilitating lives, restore peace and order and most of all to mold our youth to become a more responsible citizens of the state. (ac agad PIA 12) [top]
