DOLE Sec. Roque bares June 12 preparations

Quezon City (5 June) -- According to DOLE Sec. Marianito Roque who was designated by the President as chairman of the Committee for the 111th Independence Day, announced that this year's theme of Independence Day is "Kagitingan, Kagalingan at Kasipagan Tungo sa Tunay na Kalayaan."
Veering away from the traditional parade of floats, marches, and flag waving, government is zeroing in on addressing a global problem that is currently plaguing thousands of our countrymen - recession - and its attendant repercussions like unemployment, misaligned know how to job descriptions, and livelihood skills.
President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo under the CLEEP program will recognize the Filipino everyman's Kagitingan, Kagalingan, and Kasipagan during the Independence Day activities.
Specifically, Kagitingan - in this year's celebration, government will be hiring displaced modern day heroes through emergency employment vacancies in government. As many as 50,000 contracts of employment under the Certificates of Livelihood and Emergency Employment Program will be hired starting in Rizal Park as well as in Regional Centers around the country.
Kagalingan - in a thoroughly competitive world, the Filipino stands out because of his/her creativity, excellence, and resourcefulness. Because of these traits, the Filipino is the preferred employee over and above other nationalities. Still, with the closing of companies the world over, there is a need to job match the unemployed. Training vouchers and livelihood grants shall be distributed to deserving beneficiaries from DepEd and CHED by DSWD, TESDA, NAPC, DOLE, DSWD, DA.
Kasipagan - industriousness, an innate character of the Filipino makes him/her a survivor in any adversity. To further help workers, government will be awarding training/scholarship vouchers during the job and livelihood fairs in June 12 -14 nationwide.
All these traits will come to fore when government acknowledges the determination, excellence, and natural attribute of each and every Filipino everyman.
Without exception, there will be designated areas in all regions, where the underemployed and unemployed can register.
Private companies and LGUs will also be enjoined to set up their respective booths that will help in ensuring jobs for the jobless on June 13 for overseas employment, and on June 14 to be handled by POEA and private sector.
Aside from the one-stop shop pre-employment services under the DFA, DOJ-NBI, NSO, SSS, DOF-BIR, there will be skills demonstrations from TESDA, green technology and backyard livelihood technology to be taught by the DENR/DOST/PAGCOR, trade exhibits and caravans offering low-priced items through the DTI, housing fairs/cliniquing from HUDCC/PAG-IBIG and free medical services by the DOH will be showcased.
According to the chair of the Technical Working Group and NHI Executive Director Ludovico Badoy, the NCCA, DOT, NPDC, NHI, CCP shall also present cultural/ entertainment shows which will involve top rated performers like Charice Pempengco, Grace Nono, Noel Cabangon, Shirley Halili, Sibul Dance Troupe, Barangay Folk Dance and Lakbayaw. Among the bands to perform are Manila Brass Band, Pagcor Band, Kadangyan Band, Lakbay Lahi Band, Hamillan Band and Zynaxis Band. (PIA) [top]
