DPWH-XI posts positive accomplishment

Davao City (6 June) -- In his latest report to Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Hermogenes Ebdane Jr. DPWH XI regional director Osop L. Ali, the DPWH-XI has registered an overall accomplishment of 43.59% with a positive slippage of 7.75% as of May 2009 for cy 2009 infra projects.

The region is a recipient of infra funds worth over Php. 3.651 billion to fund the implementation of 106 infra projects for 2009. The allocation is one of the biggest in the entire country. Region XI is also implementing President Arroyo's multi-billion projects promised during her State of the nation Addresses (SONA) starting 2007 to 2009.

These projects according to Dir. Ali is worth over Php.3.020 billion and is now funding the improvement/concreting of the Surigao-Davao Road and the Kapalong-Talaingod (Davao del Norte) Valencia (Bukidnon) Road.

A total of ten (10) projects along the Surigao Sur Davao Oriental Coastal Road (Manay-Boston) are presently being implemented by the DPWH-XI regional office. These projects are now on going and are in various stages of development.

In the same report ending May 31, 2009, Director Ali pointed out that President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo's 18 SONA Projects here in Region XI are all on going. In fact 3 of these multi-billion projects have already been completed, Dir. Ali said.

The President's SONA Projects are concentrated along Surigao Sur Davao Oriental Coastal Road (Manay-Boston) with ten (10) projects; and at the Kapalong-Talaingod-Valencia, Bukidnon Road with eight (8) projects.

According to Dir. Ali, these are all high impact projects, all intended to promote the rapid economic development of region eleven. He added to say that one of the most significant infra project for region eleven this decade is the improvement/concreting of the Kapalong-Talaingod-Valencia, Bukidnon Road.

The road starts at Talaingod in Davao del Norte and when completed will end up in Valencia, Bukidnon traversing the mountainous range that divides Bukidnon and Davao del Norte for approximately 58 kilometers. "You can only imagine the thousands of farmers, traders and commuters who will benefit from this new highway once completed," Dir Ali continued to say. "This route will serve as a shortcut or alternate route in going to and from Cagayan de Oro City cutting travel time by half," he said.

These ten (10) SONA Projects of Pres. Macapagal Arroyo along the Surigao Sur-Davao Oriental Coastal Road (Manay-Boston) are listed and prioritized for completion within 2009, these are : (l) Manay section with a net length of 2.67 kilometers worth Php. 47.2 million; (2) Bislig-Manay Section for 0.77 km, with a contact price of Php. 14.6 million; (3) Manay-Caraga Section Phase I for 17.38 kms. worth Php. 192.4 million; (4) Manay-Caraga Section, Phase II with a net length 12.47 kms, with a contract price of Php. With a contract price of Php. 172.4 million; (5) Baganga Section, Phase I for 8.03 kms, with a contract price of Php. 157.07 million; (6) Baganga Section, Phase II with a length of 10.13 kms, with Php. 191.03 million; (7) Baganga-Cateel Section with a total length of 10.60 kms, with a contract price of Php. 191.2 million; (8) Cateel-Boston Section with a net length of 9.28 kms. worth Php. 197.3 million; and (9) Boston Section with a total length of 12.48 kms for Php. 286.4 million.

The DPWH-XI is also implementing five (5) improvement and rehabilitation projects in Compostela Valley Province such as the Improvement of Monkayo-Diwalwal Road with a net length of 21.70 kms., with a contract amount of Php. 92.8 million; the Rehabilitation of Surigao-Davao Coastal Road, Pantukan Section, Pantukan, ComVal province worth Php.38.4 million; the Rehabilitation of Diwalwal Road Network with a net length of 875.115 linear meters for Php. 95 million; and the Rehabilitation Reconstruction/Upgrading of Damaged Paved National Road along Davao-Cotabato Road (Davao City Junction Digos Section), Davao del Sur, with a total length of 6,006 kms plus shouldering work on both sides for 5948 linear meters worth Php.92.4 million.
