DOT trains Ifugao cops on customer service

by Vency D. Bulayungan

Lagawe, Ifugao (6 June) -- To help boost the tourism industry of the province, the Department of Tourism (DOT) conducted a three day seminar on customer service to about 50 men in uniform here.

Edgar Jularbal, Supervising Tourism Officer of DOT-CAR said that this is one of the thrusts of the department in trying to boost the tourism industry in the region. "This will eventually lead to economic upliftment of the residents here since Ifugao is a tourist destination," he said.

Jularbal said that this seminar is not only limited to topics such as effective customer service but also include waiter services, bartending, and tour guiding, among others.

Provincial Police Director PSupt. Joseph Adnol said that this seminar enhances the capability of the policemen on how to deal with their clients. We are public servants thus we should be experts in customer service, he said.

Adnol added that the Cordillera people are shy by nature, but the PNP here should maintain a good relationship with their clients and this seminar would show them how to do it.

Adnol also disclosed that the learnings acquired from this seminar can be used by the policemen in their daily lives. "That is one qualification of being an officer and a gentleman," he said.

Jovel Ananayo of the Provincial Tourism Office presented the tourism situationer. Ifugao ranks number two, next to Baguio in the influx of tourists in the region and number one when it comes to the number of foreign tourists visiting the region.

Mr. Julius Judalena, a certified trainer of the DOT discussed among others communication skills, handling complaints, and social graces and etiquette. (PIA-Ifugao) [top]
