Ifugao association engages in sugar production

Lagawe, Ifugao (6 June) -- In order to develop a crude sugar (muscovado) and generation of employment, the Ayangan Sponsored Families Development Association (ASFADEVA) established a crude sugar production at Barangay Luta here to benefit 178 sponsored indigent families.
The ASFADEVA believes that the project will create jobs not only to the members of the association but also to out of school youth in the barangays. This will also provide capability building among members thru local study mission, trainings and hands on demo.
Moreover the project will access comprehensive package of support facilities in the development of the project like provision of planting materials (seed cane) in the production stage, construction of a processing house and processing machineries and develop a brochure on sugar cane production and management for distribution to members.
The association targeted a total area of 50 hectares for sugar cane production in the coverage area of ASFADEVA here. An initial estimated surveyed area of 5 hectares is s the target sugar cane plantation for the first year of operation.
A crude sugar processing center will be the counterpart of the association that will be jointly constructed by members of the association thru the traditional way of constructing a house which is called "baddang" or voluntary labor and construction materials. (PIA-Ifugao) [top]
