Moog to retrench 293 employees; jobs fair set on June 12-14 at Baguio Convention Center

by Lito Dar

Baguio City (6 June) -- Due to the impact of the present global market situations, Moog Controls Corp, a Philippine manufacturing facility of multinational company Moog Inc for commercial aviation and industrial products, will retrenched 293 less tenured employees at the city's economic zone, effective this July 1.

In a kapihan forum held Wednesday for the launching of the city's Kalayaan 2009 celebration, Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE-CAR) regional director Atty. Ana Dione confirmed that there are on–going assistance for the affected employees.

The DOLE and its attached agencies, in partnership with Moog Control Corp and PEZA, has an on-going Outplacement Services Orientation for the affected employees. The orientation was done in three batches that started Tuesday and ended Thursday, according to Dione.

Dione said Moog has hired a consultancy group for the orientation and confirmed that Moog has promised to continue to help.

Atty Dione explained that the orientation is a knowledge- based intervention, to determine the profile of the employees and to know what they want to do after the retrenchment, so that DOLE can help them, whether they want to go into entrepreneurship or give them referrals to local or overseas company.

"By next week, the government interventions will be based on their profile, our referrals will also be based on their individual skills," Dione added. She also informed that the affected Moog employees shall be given priority on the scheduled Mega Jobs and Livelihood fair on June 12-14.

The scheduled Mega Jobs and Livelihood Fair, will be done nationwide as a major activity of the Kalayaan 2009 celebration, in line with 111th anniversary of Philippine independence. The Mega jobs fair for CAR which will be held at the Baguio Convention Center, is divided into three parts: government hiring on June 12, local job hiring on June 13, and overseas job hiring on June 14.

According to Dione, there are about 266 government job vacancy positions that will be offered. 18 companies for overseas hiring and 10 private firms for the local job hiring are expected to participate in the jobs fair. (PIA) [top]
