Army vows relentless fight vs terrorist remnants in Region 8
Tacloban City (June 7) -- Major General Arthur Tabaquero reiterated that the that the Philippine Army 8th Infantry Division will sustain its commitment to preserve the legacy of freedom, independence and peace in this part of the country.
General Tabaquero said that faced with great adversities, the ultimate dream of giving the people of Region 8 their freedom from fear, has always been the rallying point to surpass the human limits and moved the men to another level of soldiery.
To preserve that legacy, the 8th IB is united and determined to face the challenge and continue its action in the conduct of relentless operations against local terrorists, the CCP/NPA/NDF, who continue to threaten to destroy the "gains of our forebears."
Only recently, soldiers and 2 civilians died as terrorists at mid noon attacked their quarters. The terrorists even flaunted that they will make more offensive attacks on the military.
But the Army will not allow the fallen soldiers' death to be in vain. More gallant men will rise in their stead to insure that their mission is achieved and that their death will not be in vain.
The 8th Infantry Division of the Philippine Army aims to free Eastern Visayans from the claw of insurgency, Major General Tabaquero and will continue to do all it could to end insurgency by 2010.
Major General Tabaquero accepted that there are still works that needs to be done but he expressed optimism that through unity and team work with the Army's counterparts in the local government units, the media and the people of Region 8, it is possible to end insurgency which is the main reason why the Region could not be fully developed.
