Bacolod-Negros ICT Federation marks ICT Month
Bacolod City (8 June) -- President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in Proclamation No. 1521 declared the month of June as the National Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Month last May 28, 2008.
This year, the BacolodľNegros Federation For Information and Communications Technology, (BNEFIT), Inc. chaired by Councilor Jocelle Batapa Sigue in celebration of the 2nd ICT Month, underscores the need to strengthen the English language skills of the human resource pool in the province.
Various activities shall be held such as an Inter-School English Olympics to be held on June 29 and 30, 2009 to feature competitions and presentations on how mastery of English can be a very critical factor in the human capital development programs and efforts of the city and the province, a report from Batapa-Sigue said.
The local theme this year is "English: Your Key to Global Competitiveness". According to the same press release, BNEFIT is recognized by the Commission on Information and Communications Technology (CICT) as lead organization being a pioneer member of the National ICT Conference of the Philippines with Batapa-Sigue as the incoming chair in 2010.
CICT was created through an Executive Order tasked to be the primary policy, planning, coordination, and implementing administrative entity of the Executive Branch of government that will promote and develop integrated and strategic ICT systems and reliable and cost-efficient communication facilities and services.
