Lingayen, Pangasinan (8 June) -- This month of June, the world observes Environment Month.
For the past few years, the country and the world for that matter, have been experiencing irregular climate patterns. Our weather has become so unpredictable.
Pangasinan Vice-Governor Marlyn Agabas attributed the phenomenon to global warming due to lack of discipline among people and the use and abuse of our mother Earth.
Agabas noted that 50-60 years ago, people who said that water would soon come in bottles were considered crazy. Now, not only do water come in bottles, even fresh air comes in canisters.
However, Agabas posed the questions from the famous environmental song that says, 'Ang mga batang ngayon lang isinilang, may hangin pa kayang lalanghapin, may mga puno pa kaya silang aakyatin, may mga ilog pa kayang lalanguyan.'
The provincial board, she said, has manifested and reaffirmed its commitment to help protect the environment and strengthen efforts together and intensity the plans and programs for the protection and rehabilitation of the environment.
Environment Month or not, NOW is the best time to start to help save the only planet that we call our home. (PIA-Pangasinan) [top]
