Maco's Cristele Gonzales is Garbo Comvalenyo Season 2 champ

Davao City (9 June) -- It is her big night as Cristele Rein Gonzales bags this year's Garbo Comvalenyo Season 2 and garners most of the special awards, thereby making her town Maco proud. She brings home P30,000 cash prize a plaque, and gift packs from Smart Telecommunications.

Her final round, "I Surrender" which she belted out the high notes with ease and finesse, and her performances on the other genre challenge rounds (rock, classic and dance) gets the nod of the judges. She garners a total score of 91.13 base on music and song interpretation, voice quality and star quality or the level of performance.

Gonzales also topped the special awards for Best in Dance, Best in Rock and Best in Masterpiece with her interpretations of the songs "Its Raining Men," "Bulong" and the all-original composition "Dahil May Pag-ibig," respectively.

Coming in next as 1st runner-up is 17-year old Eunice Dorcas Parcon of Mabini followed by Mae Ann Nepa, a senior student of Bantacan National High School in New Bataan as 2nd runner-up.. Each receives P20,000 and P10,000 as cash prize, respectively plus plaque and gift packs from Smart.

Other special awardees are Vanessa Careras of Laak for the Texters' Choice award, garnering the most number of votes through text. While Most Requested Song among the original compositions played over radio is Tryin' performed by the only male contestant, Franz Emmanuel Quijano of Compostela.

The other finalists who also give pride to their municipalities are Mylen Enfestan of Nabunturan, Jasperlou Manalastas of Monkayo, Mawab's Krizza Jean Datoy, Maragusan's Raysell Mae Regidor, Montevista's Maria Monica Dutolio, and Cristina Takasan of Pantukan.

The contestants entertained and wowed the jam-packed crowd who came in droves and covered the sprawling ground of the provincial capitol. And as if this isn't enough, Sam Concepcion, winner of Season 1 Little Big Star-Big Edition, had the crowd going as he performed several songs and dance with gusto, to the delight of screaming fans.

Garbo Comvalenyo is an annual singing talent search spearheaded by the provincial government of Comval through the Tourism Office and is now on its 2nd season. Garbo exemplifies the singing prowess, stage performance, the x-factor and star quality that epitomizes Comval's pride.

Aside from honing their skills, Garbo also highlights Comval's homegrown composer-lyricist Lino Cajegas from Maragusan who all made original compositions specially arranged for the said competition.

The songs are then interpreted by the contestants each representing the province's 11 municipalities at the Capitol Freedom Stage in Brgy. Cabidianan, Nabunturan on June 2.

The same original songs are compiled in one album entitled, Garbo Comvalenyo Season 2 and is now on sale at the Tourism Office and major CD outlets. The song tracks include Magmamahal Pa Rin, Tunay na Kaibigan, Doon, Paiibigin Mo Lang Ako, Dahil May Pag-ibig, I'm In Heaven, I'm Just Here, I'm Tryin', Eternity, Could You Mend My Broken Heart, and Until the Morning Comes. The album also includes bonus tracks of Garbo Comvalenyo themesong, Bulawanong Kinaiyahan and Tayo'y Magka-isa, performed by Gov. Arturo T. Uy and the 11 Garbo contestants. (ffm/ids comval) [top]
