Cebu City LTO receives ISO certification

Cebu City (9 June) -- Being a service-oriented office, the Cebu City Licensing Division of the Land Transportation Office (LTO) strives not only to hit the level of efficiency and effectiveness desired by the bureaucracy but it managed to transcend to a higher level of the quality of service the Cebu City LTO provides now is at par with the rest of the world as it passed the highly prohibitive parameters set by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) on the aspect of the quality of service, speed, procedure, and management.
The ISO, composed of over 50,000 experts, is recognized by authorities worldwide as one that sets standards for services, management, governance, products, trade, security, and almost any major activities of mankind.
Cebu City LTO Licensing Chief Atty. Vicente Gador Jr. said that the certification tells that the office has complied with world standards quality of services and governance.
"This is not my achievement so it is not something to brag about… All I can say is that I appeal to the public that before they criticize the (LTO) Office, they have to visit us first and see for themselves the truth," said Gador.
Joining Gador in receiving the award last April was other key officials of the transportation office in the local and national levels.
With the 10 ISO 9001: 2009 certificate that was awarded last April 23, 2009 in Manila, the office received P1 million for more improvement of its services and other needs. Aside from it, the office also received P50 thousand was also awarded to the employees of the Licensing Office in recognition of their contributions that led to the certification by the ISO.
Fe Ducallos, a detailed government LTO employee from Eastern Visayas said that she is so happy for the award.
"I feel so proud of being a part of the office," Ducallos shared.
A PUJ driver who refused to be identified shared that he is so amazed by the speed and convenience he now experiences in renewing his license compared to the last time he had it in the same office.
"I like this now because I find the processing of my license renewal quick and easy now. Not like when I had it years back," bared the driver.
In every training of the Civil Service Commission, it is always a battlecry that good governance means efficient and effective delivery of services to the public.
With the Cebu City LTO getting an ISO certification, one only hopes that this will be used by others as a benchmark every government office must achieve, and settle for only the best. (PIA Cebu) [top]
