Zambo Norte agri products sold in Visayan markets
Dipolog City (9 June) -- Using the Strong Republic Nautical Highway (SRNH) in Dapitan City, farm products of Zamboanga del Norte now find their way to the markets in Dumaguete and Cebu.
Acting provincial agriculturist Maybel Bustaliño disclosed that 4.4 tons of high quality tomatoes from the Hi-Green farm of Barangay Buena Vista in Sergio Osmeña town had already been shipped to Dumaguete and Cebu.
It was learned that this was the first time that such volume of tomato products had been sent to the markets in Visayas.
"This is a realization of the province's dream to really penetrate the big markets in the Visayas and later on in Luzon," Zamboanga del Norte Governor Rolando E. Yebes said as he witnessed the loading of the product into the GP lines vessel.
Governor Yebes even added that "if a bigger volume of farm products shall be transported in the future, I can assure of free shipping."
In a related development, the acting provincial agriculturist disclosed that places where certain farm products are to be cultivated were already identified. For tomato, it will be grown in Sergio Osmeña, while bulb onions and sweet pepper will be cultivated in Sindangan town.
The Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA) is now also contemplating on raising cauliflower, hot pepper and other high-value crops. (PF/PIA-ZN) [top]
