Roxas City (9 June) -- Presidential Assistant for Western Visayas Raul N. Banias said the upcoming 111th Independence Day celebration on June 12 is more than the usual commemoration rites.
"Aside from the ceremonial flag raising and commemoration of independence, a job fair has also been set to generate employment for jobseekers as part of President Gloria Arroyo's effort to lessen the impact of the economic crisis," he said.
The President's alter-ego in the region was referring to the three-day nationwide job and livelihood fair that will be spearheaded by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) on June 12 to 14 to mark the country's celebration of Independence Day this year.
At least 170,000 vacancies are at stake for the three-day nationwide job and livelihood fair that will be participated in by about 1,000 employers from the private and government sectors including those from the overseas recruitment industry.
A DOLE portal news noted that the first day (June 12) of the job fair would feature government agencies offering 50,000 vacancies especially for professionals and other jobseekers with civil service eligibility.
The second day of the job fair on June 13 would feature private local companies offering some 70,000 employment opportunities while the following day, June 14, would feature recruitment agencies offering some 50,000 sea-based and land-based overseas employment. (PIA) [top]
