Feature: 175,000 jobs, 19 sites, 3 day-Mega Job Fair on Independence Day

Bacolod City (9 June) -- Themed "Kagitingan, Kagalingan at Kasipagan: Tungo sa Tunay na Kalayaan", the 111th Independence Day celebration will focus on jobs, livelihood, discounts plus concerts.

On June 12, thousands of jobseekers are expected to flock Rizal Park, the main event venue for the Mega Job Fair and the 18 more sites all over the country to try their luck for some 175,000 jobs. Jobseekers can choose from local or overseas jobs - land based or sea-based and private or government positions.

The first day June 12 is reserved for displaced government workers for emergency contract employment or vacant plantilla positions and the qualified workers in various government agencies. There is an estimated 50,000 positions for the combined vacant plantilla positions for qualified jobseekers and emergency contract workers in various government agencies, bureaus, corporations nationwide.

On the next day June 13, some 1000 companies from the private sector shall offer 75,000 positions as well as LGUs and on June 14, 50,000 land and sea-based jobs for OFWS shall be given by 1,000 local recruitment agencies/contractors.

President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo designated Department of Labor and Employment Secretary Marianito Roque as chair of the Committee for the 111th Independence Day Celebration.

The President pursuant to last year's theme of "bringing government to the people" has instructed her cabinet secretaries to implement the Comprehensive Livelihood and Emergency Employment Program (CLEEP) as part of the government's economic resiliency plan addressing the global financial crisis. The various CLEEP Stewards/champions shall bring to the people in all regions jobs, emergency employment contracts, livelihood, housing, scholarships and entrepreneurial opportunities to be led by DOLE and NAPC.

Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Lorelei Fajardo will be guest speaker for the Independence Day celebration here. According to Bacolod Councilor Homer Bais, Committee Chair, Bacolod's celebration will start with a flag raising, wreath-laying and a parade in the afternoon from the Bacolod Public Plaza to the new government center. A human flag with about 9,000 volunteers wearing the colors blue, red, white and yellow will add significance to the parade.

In Rizal Park, added attractions to the Mega Job Fair are daily concerts by Filipino artists like Pilita Corrales, Charice Pempengco, the Bayanihan Dance Troupe. There is also a search on Pambansang Gawad sa Ulirang Kabataan of DepEd to recognize outstanding students and a tribute to artist Francis Magalona by leading bands. (PIA/EAD with PIA/BLP) [top]
