South Cotabato provincial jail implements ALS

Koronadal City (9 June) -- The South Cotabato Rehabilitation Detention Center is implementing the Alternative Learning System (ALS) starting today June 9, 2009 at the South Cotabato Provincial Jail.
ALS is a program of the Department of Education aimed to provide formal education to the inmates especially the illiterate prisoners to have the access of education inside the lock up cell in basic education, elementary and high school.
In an interview of Philippine Information Agency XII with Jose Ariel Sionosa, Administrative Officer of South Cotabato Provincial Jail it was revealed that the orientation of the said program was held last May 26, 2009 and formal session of classes starts today for basic education with 15 participants, 14 for elementary level while the secondary classes start yesterday with 36 students.
The SoCot provincial Jail plans to put up a Mini-Library for easy access of learning materials for the inmates and serve as study area inside the Provincial Jail for those enrolled under Alternative Learning System of the Department of Education Division of South Cotabato. The said project will cost P10,000, Sionosa added.
Inmates enrolled under the ALS starting today are expected to graduate this October and will be given a Certificate of Completion.
The Rehabilitation program of the province implemented inside the provincial jail includes education, religious services, livelihood, recreation, medical and dental services. (PIA 12) [top]
