TESDA Lanao Sur to award scholarships on Independence Day

by Apipa P. Bagumbaran

Marawi City (10 June) -- The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Lanao del Sur Provincial Office will be distributing scholarship certificates to deserving beneficiaries under the Pangulong Gloria Scholarships Program during the 111th Independence Day celebration on June 12.

According to TESDA Lanao del Sur Provincial Director Tarhata S. Mapandi, the distribution is in line with President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's directive to all government agencies and instrumentalities to bring government services to the people in commemoration of the Independence Day.

The celebration, which has been traditionally highlighted by parade of floats, will now center on the Arroyo's administration's jobs and job generation program.

Dubbed as Kalayaan 2009, the celebration focusing on the theme "Kagitingan, Kagalingan at Kasipagan: Tungo sa Tunay na Kalayaan" will highlight President's Arroyo Comprehensive Livelihood and Emergency Employment Program (CLEEP).

CLEEP is primarily intended for poor and underprivileged workers who are expected to bear the impact of the global financial crisis.

Earlier, President Arroyo ordered Cabinet Secretaries who are also CLEEP stewards to oversee the activities for the Independence Day rites.

The activities include, among others, the conduct of job and livelihood fairs, awarding of emergency employment certificates, distribution of livelihood assistance, and awarding of training scholarships.

The President also pointed out that with these activities new college graduates, displaced overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), out-of-school youths and other job hunters affected by the global economic crisis will have a better crack at employment opportunities. (PIA-Marawi City) [top]
