18,000 jobs up for grab on June 12 job fair

By Mai Gevera

Davao City (11 June) -- Around 18,000 job openings will be available for the unemployed in the coming June 12 to 14 Job Fair at the NCCC Mall, Matina, Davao City.

Labor regional director Jalilo De La Torre announced in yesterday's Club 888 Media Forum that there are 100 employers joining the said event.

This job fair forms part in the 3-day celebration of Kalayaan 2009, the 111th Philippine Independence Day.

De La Torre stressed that the conduct of jobs fair remain to be the most effective strategy to gather job applicants and land a job suited for them.

"The May 1st Jobapalooza resulted to a highest on the spot hiring rate as 1,400 applicants were hired right on that one-day event," he said.

The official said that every time the DOLE conducts job fair activities, real jobs and real employers are truly assured to the applicants.

" Even this coming job fair which will start on June 12 and will run in three day, we assure you that there will be no imaginary jobs or employers." De La Torre roughly estimates about 20 percent of the applicants will be given jobs locally or internationally.

Also in the same venue is the awarding ceremony where government agencies will award their employment contracts and livelihood and scholarship grants to intended beneficiaries, preferably displaced workers and their dependents.

There will also be free medical and dental services, free legal services, concert, skills demo and career talk during the three-day event. (PIA XI) [top]
