DOLE eyes higher on-the-spot hirings in jobs fair

by RG Alama

Davao City (11 June) -- The Department of Labor and Emloyment is targeting a higher number of on-the-spot hiring during the Kalayaan Jobs fair in Davao to be held this June 12-14 at NCCC mall in Davao City.

DOLE-XI Regional Director Jalilo Dela Torre during an interview at Club 888 media forum at Marco Polo Davao last June 10 said that they are targeting to hit more than 20% of on-the-spot hired applicants out of the total number of jobseekers in the jobs fair.

Previous average on-the-spot hiring hovered at around 20% of the total number of jobseekers in a particular jobs fair. The Kalayaan jobs fair will feature about 100 companies and about 18,000 jobs will be available to jobseekers.

The Jobs Fair is and integral part of the 111th Independence day celebrations on June 12. According to Dela Torre this is the 2nd large-scale jobs fair organized by the DOLE this year. The first one was last May 1 and which was termed as Jobapaloooza.

DOLE-XI however is planning another jobs fair this August, which would focus on the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Sector.

Dela Torre also said that aside from massive nationwide jobs fair. Public Employment Service Offices across the country are also engaging in small job fairs. He remembers that when he was still assigned at the Bureau of Local Employment, an average of two local job fairs are being held across the country daily. (PIA XI) [top]
