DOLE-IX spearheads Kalayaan '09 celebration with mega job, livelihood and diskwento fair

Zamboanga City (June 11) -- Kalayaan 2009 is a grand celebration of 111th Philippine Independence Day nationwide with a theme “Kagitingan, Kagalingan at Kasipagan: Tungo sa Tunay na Kalayaan”. In Zamboanga City, highlighting the celebration is the Mega Job, Livelihood and Diskwento Fair.

The celebration takes-off on June 12, 2009 at 8:00 a.m. with the Flag Raising Ceremony and Wreath Laying at the Jose P. Rizal monument in front of the City Hall. This will be followed with the Job, Livelihood and Diskwento Fair at the Summit Center, Tetuan, Zamboanga City.

Both events shall be graced by Hon. Eduardo R. Ermita, Executive Secretary and CORD and CLEEP Steward for Zamboanga Peninsula (ZAMPEN) Region; Hon. Crisanto B. Dela Cruz, Presidential Assistant for Western Mindanao; Hon. Celso L. Lobregat, Mayor, Zamboanga City; Hon. Maria Isabel Climaco-Salazar and Hon. Erico Basilio A. Fabian, Representatives, 1st and 2nd Districts of Zamboanga City, respectively; and the Regional Directors and Heads of Offices of the National Government Agencies (NGAs) and Government Owned and Controlled Corporations (GOCCs).

Department of Labor and Employment, Region IX or DOLE-IX Regional Director Ponciano M. Ligutom disclosed that available vacancies for the Job Fair include (1) 1,011 for local employment, (2) 13,121 for overseas employment, and (3) 3,387 for Government job orders under Emergency Employment and Plantilla Positions to be participated in by 15 overseas recruitment agencies, 28 local employers or companies and 16 National Government Agencies pursuant to Executive Order No. 782.

Other Job Fair activities will be held in several cities and municipalities around the region. Isabela City Field Office had their Job Fair last June 4 at the Basilan Provincial Capitol building covering Isabela City and Basilan Province of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM).

Simultaneous Job Fair will be conducted by the Regional and Zamboanga City Field Offices at the Summit Center in Tetuan, this City and the Municipality of Liloy at the LGU gym on June 12.

Another Job Fair will be conducted in Molave, Zamboanga del Sur at the LGU gym on June 13 and in the Municipality of Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay at the LGU gym on June 14.

Overseas job orders are the following: skilled workers (mason, mechanic, draftsman, foreman, steel fixer); medical and health care professionals (nurses, doctors, transcriptionists, caregiver, therapists, dentists); household service workers; hotel and restaurant service crews (culinary chef, cook, baker and kitchen crew); office management personnel (cashier, bookkeeper, secretary); IT analyst, computer programmer, autocad operator, 3D animators and visualizers; business management and accountancy professionals; engineers, technicians and fabricators. Furthermore, local job orders are for production crews, IT programmers, call center agents, chemist and medical technologists, marketing officer, office management professionals (clerk, cashier, bookkeeper, and secretary), etc.

For the Comprehensive Livelihood and Emergency Employment Program (CLEEP) of the NGAs, there will be 3,760 workers to be awarded with emergency employment contracts amounting to Thrity-Six Million Pesos and 100 plantilla positions, 607 trainees for the Scholarship Grants amounting to more than Ten Million Pesos, and 1,462 individuals/associations awarded with Livelihood Checks amounting to more than Twenty Million Pesos; all for ZamPen Region.

For DOLE-IX, 11 employment contracts for the newly hired personnel under the emergency employment and 271 training agreements for nurse-trainees in the 1st batch under the Project Nurses Assigned in Rural Service (NARS) to be awarded with an allotted budget of more than Thirteen Million Pesos. In addition, DOLE-IX shall be awarding 16 livelihood checks involving a total amount of more than Four Million Pesos for 787 beneficiaries.

The Project NARS, a pump-priming strategy of DOLE-IX will accept applications for 340 Nurse Trainees for the 2nd batch in the 68 poorest cities and municipalities of the ZAMPEN region during the Mega Job Fair. An amount of more than Sixteen Million Pesos is allotted for the 2nd batch.

Registration and recruitment is currently ongoing at Public Employment Service Offices (PESOs) of the covered cities and municipalities, DOLE City and Provincial Offices. For those who are interested, the requirements are: duly registered with the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC), must not be more than 35 years old, without nurse-related experience for the past 3 years, residents of the covered Cities and Municipalities, and priority shall be given to those who are dependents of displaced workers. Orientation will be on October 1 and 2, 2009 and the deployment is slated on October 3, 2009.

A Career Advancement and Entrepreneurial Counselling Booth is made available for the jobseekers to acquire knowledge and skills through demonstrations on massage therapy, food processing and herbal medicine; applicants for Call Centers to avail of the skills assessment, training and referral of Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA); product display; Entre-Negosyo Film Viewing of Department of Trade and Industry (DTI); and career orientation.

Various local manufacturers, suppliers and distributors where they will offer products and services at discounted price under the "Diskwento Fair: Presyong Panalo para sa Mamimiling Pilipino".

DOLE, in coordination with the DTI, was instructed to form an inter-agency body to administer the implementation of Non-Wage Benefits to help workers to cope with the rising prices of goods and services.

Products to be offered to the public at discounted price are the following: rice, toiletries, frozen foods, Nestle products, energy drink products, dry goods, spa, salon, and massage services. Each consumer is entitled to avail of any or a combination of the abovementioned products and services for up to Php 1,500.

On the other hand, the livelihood fair will be participated in by 6 registered Rural Workers Associations which will be displaying their products coming from projects funded by DOLE's Livelihood Programs.

These activities are opened to the public, thus everybody is enjoined to participate and get involved to highlight the 111th Anniversary of the Philippine Independence Day Celebration. (DOLE9/PIA9-BST) [top]
