ARMM primes up for 1st Regional Coop Summit
Cotabato City (June 11) -- The Cooperative Development Authority of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (CDA-ARMM) headed by Administrator Sammy G. Ibrahim is all bustle and hustle this week as they prepare for the first ever Cooperative Summit in the Autonomous Region this coming June 17, 2009 at the Southseas Mall this city.
The theme for this year's confab is "Kooperatiba: Tulay sa Kaunlaran at Kapayapaan" in line with ARMM Regional Governor Datu Zaldy Uy Ampatuan's directive to strengthen the cooperatives in the ARMM as one of the prime movers for peace and developments.
Ibrahim said that they invited no less than Honorable Congressman Jose R. Ping-ay, COOP-NATCCO Partylist Representative and other guests from government and non-government funding agencies.
He added that they are expecting not less than 500 participants from the close to seven thousand coops in the whole region.
The ARMM is one of the regions in the country which hosts the largest number of cooperatives having more than 6,700 cooperatives as of recent count.
"This summit aims to strengthen the coordination of the coops and CDA-ARMM so that our office can extend the necessary services and assistance to these coops and at the same time give them opportunity and access to the programs and assistance from our office, CDA-National and other funding institutions which provides help to our coops," Ibrahim said.
Ibrahim also said that this summit will be a big milestone for the CDA-ARMM in its mandate to promote and strengthen the cooperatives in the region since the devolution of the CDA-ARMM through EO 316 signed by former president Fidel V. Ramos on March 26, 1996.
He also announced that the different coops from different provinces of the ARMM will exhibit their products a day before the summit. These product exhibits will feature each ARMM province's renowned produce such as brasswares from Lanao del Sur and Marawi City and the rubber, fruits, coffee, seaweeds and other products from the island provinces.
