111th Independence Day rites all set for June 12

Bacolod City (11 June) -- The Bacolod City government is all set for the holding of the 111th Independence Day program tomorrow (June 12) that will feature, for the first time, the formation of thousands of volunteers to form a human flag walking from the Burgos Street to the New Government Center (NGC).

According to Independence Day Celebration Over-all Chairman Councilor Homer Bais, everything is set for the much the anticipated event adding that they have already reached the number of volunteers to form the human flag.

He appealed to Bacoleños to join the parade and wear either blue or red t-shirt symbolic of the colors of the Philippine flag.

The program will start with a nationwide simultaneous flag-raising at 7:30am followed by a wreath-laying at the Public Plaza.

A program follows at the Bays Center with Deputy Spokesman Ma. Lorelie Fajardo as guest.

A job fair will also be held for the whole day at Robinson’s Place that jibes with the theme of the celebration: Kagitingan, Kagalingan at Kasipagan Tungo sa Tunay na Kalayaan.”

In the national scene, a three-day jobs generation will be held starting today to June 14.with a total of 120,000 jobs up for grabs in 18 jobs fair sites across the country.

June 12 is reserved for displaced government workers for emergency contract employment or vacant plantilla positions and the qualified workers in various government agencies while on June 13 some 1000 companies from the private sector will offer 75,000 jobs.

On June 14 about 50,000 land and sea-based jobs for OFWs shall be offered by 1,000 local recruitment agencies. (PIA-LOL) [top]
