by Erna S. Gorne

Maasin City (June 11) -- The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) in partnership with the Southern Leyte Electric Cooperative (SOLECO), the electric cooperative distributing power in the locality, will present a new rate-setting methodology developed by ERC for "on-grid Electric Cooperatives (ECs)" today, SOLECO General Manager Rosello Gerong disclosed.

No less than Commissioner Jose C. Reyes of the ERC will facilitate for the conduct of public consultation on the Proposed Rules for the Setting of Electric Cooperatives (ECs’) Wheeling Rates: Bench Marking in close coordination with SOLECO, it was learned.

Gerong further said that proposed rules for electric cooperatives wheeling rates will have an impact on the distribution rates of SOLECO. The Bench Marking Methodology" is a new rate –setting methodology developed by the ERC for "on-grid electric cooperatives" pursuant to its authority under the Electric Power Industry Reform Act of 2001 (EPIRA Law) to regulate retail rates charged by the distribution utilities.

Manager Gerong also called for the widest participation throughout the province. He said appropriate notices to the Provincial Governor’s Office, Maasin City Mayor’s Office and all Municipal Mayor’s Offices in the province were invited for the public consultation.

The ERC, as a quasi-judicial body has the authority to develop methodology and regulate electric rates of both private distribution and electric cooperatives under the EPIRA Law.

The public consultation, supposedly to be held at the SOLECO Headquarters, is moved to Casa Ampil Pensione which has a bigger and widerspace to accommodate the anticipated large attendance, Gerong added. (With reports from SOLECO) [top]
