Health office says dengue barangay brigades reduce cases in NVizcaya

Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya (11 June) -- Cases of hemorrhagic dengue in the province have decreased significantly due to the intensified anti-dengue operations of Dengue Barangay Brigades(DBBs) in various villages in the province.

Dr. Edwin Galapon, provincial health officer said 67 DBBs which were organized, oriented and assisted in search and destroy operations on the breeding grounds for mosquitoes covering 10 municipalities and fumigation of 2 municipalities with 21 barangays helped in the lowering down of dengue cases.

"With our effective operations with our DBBs coupled with our massive Information, education and communication activities, we were able to trim down our cases," Galapon stressed.

He said cases of dengue hemorrhagic fever decreased by 21.22 percent in 2008 compared to the data in 2007.

Galapon said the municipalities of Bambang, Dupax del Norte, Dupax del Sur, Solano, Bayombong and Aritao are identified hotspots dengue cases.

For the 1st quarter this year, the provincial health office reported 1 death out of the 39 cases from the 15 municipalities of the province. (PIA NVizcaya) [top]
