3,000 beneficiaries in Northern Mindanao to get livelihood checks on June 12

Cagayan de Oro City (11 June) -- At least P45.438 million in 1,894 livelihood checks will be awarded to 3,113 beneficiaries in Northern Mindanao after the flag raising ceremony on June 12, 2009, at the Misamis Oriental Provincial Capitol Ground, this city.
"Awarding of these livelihood checks, however, is only one of the activities of this year’s observance of the 111th Philippine Independence Day," Asst. Regional Director Sisinio B. Cano of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in the region said.
He said following the directive of Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and in keeping with the need of the times as part of the solution to the global financial crises, DOLE is spearheading the holding of jobs and livelihood fairs, nationwide, instead of the usual parade of floats this coming June 12.
For this year, the celebration will focus on the theme "Kagitingan, Kagalingan at Kasipagan: Tungo sa Maunlad na Kabuhayan, (Heroism, Excellence and Industriousness: Towards a Progressive Livelihood)."
Meanwhile, Cano said the following agencies will award the checks: Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), 1,838 checks amounting to P38.118 million for 1,838 beneficiaries and DOLE, 10 checks amounting to P4.295 million for 890 beneficiaries.
Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), 39 checks amounting to Php1.95 million for 39 beneficiaries, Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), seven checks amounting to P775,000 for 155 beneficiaries and Department of Science and Technology (DOST), two checks amounting to P300,000 for 200 beneficiaries.
On the other hand, 1,522 scholarship grants will also be awarded during the occasion by the Technical Education Skills and Development Authority (TESDA) in Misamis Oriental to 1,200 scholars, Local Government of Cagayan de Oro City, 312 scholars and Commission on Higher Education (CHED), 10 scholars.
Also to be awarded the emergency employment contracts are more than 6,000 individuals during the program following the flag-raising and wreath-laying ceremonies on June 12:
Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) for 263 emergency employees, DENR for 375 individuals to be employed as Bantay Gubat and 88 Extension Workers and Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) for 70 job order employees;
Department of Health (DOH) for 30 and Department of Agriculture (DA) for 71 emergency workers, Philippine National Police (PNP) for 130 new recruits and the different Local Government Units (LGU) of the region to some 5,000 workers hired under the Comprehensive Emergency Employment Program (CLEEP).
