Lawyer-commentator shot dead in Mindoro Occidental

San Jose (11 June) -- Atty. Crispin Perez Y. Penilla, 66 years old, married, practicing lawyer, and active commentator/host of "Sa Totoo Lang" daily program being aired at DWDO radio station in San Jose, Mindoro Occidental was shot to death on June 09, 2009 at about 10:00 a.m. in his residence at Brgy Poblacion 7, San Jose, Mindoro Occidental.

Initial investigation revealed that Penilla, a former vice Governor of the Mindoro Occidental, and his gunman had about 20-minute talk inside the Penilla’s house before the incident happened.

Investigators are not discounting the possibility that the incident may possibly be work-related since the victim is a practicing lawyer and radio commentator.

For his part, PNP regional director Palmera disclosed that on June 10, 2009 at about 8:00 A.M. along Quezon St, Brgy. 7, San Jose, Mindoro Occidental, PNP personnel has recovered an abandoned motorcycle at approximately 250 meters away from the crime scene, with SYM Star 110 description, marked with "FOR REGISTRATION".

Investigators suspect that the motorbike was used by the gunman to accomplish the crime as positively identified by the wife of the victim. The motorcycle will be turned–over to the Crime Laboratory Office for further examination, which might lead to the identification of the owner and/or the suspect.

PCSUPT Palmera directed the PNP personnel under the Mindoro Occidental PPO to provide choke points and activate OPLAN TAMBULI (Occidental Mindoro Dragnet Plan) for the possible arrest of the suspect. Follow-up operation is still ongoing. The Provincial Task Force USIG (TF USIG) is leading the investigation to determine the identity of the suspect and other personalities who maybe involved in the incident. (PNP/PIA) [top]
